A poster for Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale has been released, showing cast member Michelle Dockery in an elegant red gown.

The teaser, which promises opulence with its red-and-gold colour scheme, contains the tagline: “It’s almost time to bid farewell.”

The final instalment, being released in September, will see the return of cast members, including Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Carmichael, and Jim Carter.

Dockery, 43, will reprise the role of Lady Mary whose family journeyed to the south of France to uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess’s newly inherited villa in the second film.

The poster shows her in a doorway, in what appears to be the fictional Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey, wearing a bright-red, floor-length dress with a cut-out panel at the back, long cream gloves and a tiara.

Starting as a series in 2010, the programme went on to win a number of awards including more than a dozen Emmys in categories including hairstyling and directing.

The final episode of Downton Abbey aired on Christmas Day in 2015.

Released in 2019, the first film in the trilogy depicted a royal visit to the Crawley family and Downton staff.

The second film, Downton Abbey: A New Era, premiered in 2022.

Oscar-winning actress Dame Maggie Smith, who died in September 2024 at the age of 89, starred in both films as Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham.

The third and final film in the Downton franchise is written by the show’s creator, Julian Fellowes, and directed by Simon Curtis.

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale will be released in cinemas globally on September 12 2025.
