Shropshire boxer Jordan Simmons faces a potentially draining weekend - with the possibility of two big fights in two days.

The teenager from Telford was this afternoon in Bromsgrove to face Wednesbury's Jack Wood in a pre-qualifier for the Midlands Schoolboys Championships.

Wood, a former national champion, was sure to prove tough opposition at Lickey End Working Men's Club.

But, should Simmons come through victorious, he will have precious little time to celebrate his achievement.

And that is because he will be straight back in the ring 24 hours later, fighting in the semi-finals at Donnington Boxing Club.

Also appearing in the semi-finals tomorrow will be Donnington's own Liam Davies, the 13-year-old up against Jack Butcher of Walsall Wood.

The Midlands semis begin at Donnington's Turreff Avenue base at 1pm. Around 15 bouts are scheduled, with tickets costing £10 (£5 concessions) on the door.
