Shropshire legend Richie Woodhall today accused David Haye and Dereck Chisora of "letting boxing down" and called for the sport's governing body to act.

The two Brits were involved in an ugly-post fight brawl in the wake of Chisora's points defeat to Vitali Klitschko in their WBC heavyweight championship contest in Munich on Saturday night.

Woodhall – now a respected media pundit – wasn't in Germany but has digested the press conference melee with a mixture of shock and disappointment.

"They have let themselves down and they have let boxing down," said former WBC super middleweight champion Woodhall, who lives in Telford.

"I don't think David Haye went there with the intention to start anything like that.

"I think he wanted to call Vitali out to box him in the future which is the kind of thing that happens.

"I think the thing with Chisora just developed and it got out of hand.

"I know them both and they are okay fellas but this puts the sport in the headlines for the wrong reasons."

While Woodhall would not be drawn on what punishment should be meted out to the pair, he is adamant sanctions must be imposed.

"The British Boxing Board of Control can't be see to be doing nothing," added the 43-year-old.

"Generally, boxing isn't in a bad state and incidents like this are a rare occurrence.

"But the Board has to send out a message to say we can't tolerate this type of behaviour."
