Jimmy Bullard tees up a new career at Astbury Hall golf event

Former Premier League football star Jimmy Bullard had hoped for a below-par display – but he had to settle for an eight over round of 78 at Bridgnorth's Astbury Hall Golf Club today as he continues his quest to carve out a new career as a golfer.

Bullard managed one birdie, at the fourth hole, but suffered nine bogeys.

The ex-Wigan Athletic and Fulham midfielder, who was forced to call time on football last year because of a serious knee injury, was one of 160 competitors, along with Ludlow's Oliver Farr, teeing off in Shropshire in the latest Europro Tour event.

The London-born midfielder played 342 games in a career spanning more than 14 years.

As well as Fulham and Wigan, he has also turned out for Gravesend & Northfleet, West Ham United, Peterborough United, Hull City, Ipswich Town and Milton Keynes Dons.
