The amateur, who is a member at Oswestry, hit a perfect second shot to the first hole of a sudden-death play-off and sank the putt for a birdie three to win the trophy.

He had been tied after 36 holes of regular play with Will Enefer of Wrekin Golf Club and Luke Towler of Telford Golf and Country Club.

All three shot one-under-par totals of 139 to book a place in the play-off with Enefer one under par for his second round while his two rivals had carded one under par in round one.

Shrewsbury Golf Club's Barry Ruddick shot the joint best round of the day in round two – a two-under-par 68 – to finish fourth on one over par overall.

Professional Ricki Pharo was fifth on two over par, with Tom Young of Hawkstone Park, Gareth Evans of Oswestry, Nick Evans of Shrewsbury, Tom King of Llanymynech and Oswestry's Lee Anslow finishing three over par in a five-way tie for sixth.
