McGinley, a member of Excalibur Martial Arts, excelled at the GTI black belt grading in Derby, along with fellow club students Dave Holloway and Declan Kearney.

The Bicton Heath girl was assessed on pattern-kata, line-work, sparring, self-defence, applications, power tests and theory.

McGinley, a pupil at Shrewsbury's Oxon Primary School, is Excalibur's youngest black belt and the first junior girl at her club to achieve the rank of first Dan.

A silver medal champion at national tournaments, she also enjoys helping other students of all ages learn and improve.

Excalibur's chief instructor Seamus McGinley, her proud dad, said: "When many students start learning Tae Kwon Do, their focus is understandably on gaining that elusive black belt as their goal.

"I'm really proud of Erin and what she has achieved. She's a great role model for all our young students."
