It's double delight for Cotton

Louise Cotton was a proud double winner over Shrewsbury Indoor Bowls Club's weekend of competition finals.

Cotton, who is a qualified coach for the Sports Village-based club, won the ladies singles and mixed pairs title with her youngest son Josh

She raised the Collins Trophy as ladies champion by defeating fellow crown green bowler Lorna Williams in the final and teamed up with Josh to beat husband and wife, Alan and Glenys Boulton, in the mixed pairs climax to land the Taylor Shield.

Success for Cotton – from Trench in Telford – helped to ease the pain of not being re-elected as a Shropshire Ladies selector this year, although she does remain the association's competition secretary.

But it was not all victories for Cotton over the weekend as she and doubles partner Williams lost to long established flat green bowlers Cherry O'Connor and Sheila Simcoe in the ladies pairs final to miss out on the Attwood Trophy.

Alan Boulton recovered to triumph, linking up with Jim Lister to lift the Severn Trophy as gents pairs champs with victory in the final against Will Tarrel and Mark Thomas.

Tarrel's father, Bill, was crowned gents singles champion again with victory over Dominic Simcoe to take the Henry VIII Trophy while Simcoe beat Rod Payne to the Jubilee Cup as mixed singles winner.

Organiser Chris Bell was a happy man after club chairman David Charles had presented all the prizes.
