The county darters are up to fourth in the BDO British Inter-Counties Championship Division Four with one match left, writes Craig Birch.

They complete their fixtures away to Middlesex on the weekend commencing April 23, looking to finish on a high.

All four sides won when they welcomed the Isle of Wight to Castle Hall in Bridgnorth for two days of darts last weekend.

The hosts set their stall out from the ladies B pairings, where they came out on top 4-2 with three whitewashes on the way.

Shropshire's Caroline Jones top scored with an average of 18.79 over a 3-0 shut-out of Angie Cotton (13.89).

The other two drubbings came courtesy of their teenage connection with Grace Angell, 14, making it four wins from four.

Angell (12.42) eased past Jackie Gardener (11.45) while team-mate Sophie Fawcett, 15, notched 15.03 in a comprehensive defeat of Valerie Emm (12.96).

Dawn Basill mustered the Isle of Wight's best reply, gleaning 17.30 from a 3-1 success over Suzanne Lane (15.07).

Shropshire were in command after the men's B affairs, where they were victorious 9-3. Again, they recorded three whitewashes.

But it was Ian Pallett - father of PDC pro David - who racked up the best figures, registering 24.20 in a 3-1 vanquishing of Gene Bagley (22.70).

David Robinson had got the Isle of Wight up and running in the opening game, with 23.48 in a 3-2 last leg overcoming of Brian Hickman (22.35).

The match was as good as over after the women's A meetings, where Shropshire went 18-6 up after a 5-1 result.

Michele Pritchard led the way with 19.00 in a 3-1 verdict over Shirley Smith (17.02). Maria Agozzino got the visitors' sole reply in the last leg, with 14.85 beating Mandy Morgan (15.50).

The home line-up got to the finish line 8-4 in the men's A finale, where play was upgraded to a best-of-seven format.

Danny James racked up the highest average of the weekend, racing to 25.11 in a 4-2 victory over Kevin Woodward (24.60).

Gordon Crews recorded the Isle of Wight's highest winning average in the last game, with 23.48 in a 4-2 defeat of Peter Eley (22.60).

Shropshire gained three extra points as the winning county, a 26-10 scoreline highlighting the difference between the two.
