The former St Georges team-mates in the Shrewsbury Ladies League ruled on Sunday at Atcham, finishing with an awesome display in the final.

They beat Wrockwardine Wood sisters Angela Gaut and Helen Clee 21-2 to get their hands on the trophy, just eight days after Cotton reached the semi-finals of the British Ladies Averages Winners' Classic.

She now plays her bowls for reigning Division One champions Meole Brace while Lucas remains full time with St Georges, but together they were unstoppable in the sunshine.

Organiser Louise Cotton said: "The eventual winners bowled exceptionally well throughout the day, stopping a third successive title for Jenny Rogers and Natalie Connor by winning their battle in the quarter-finals 21-15.

"In the semis there was another great display from both pairs with Emma Shore and Lisa Neal being pipped at the post 21-17.

"And in the final Alison and Sonya combined strong leads with defensive tactics to make them worthy winners.

"All the players soon adapted to the tricky green with some amazingly high standards of bowling. Special thanks go to Atcham BC for their fantastic hospitality throughout the day."

Past winners Gaut and Clee beat Siobhan Harding and Lisa Pessall 21-12 in their semi-final.

Quarter-final results: Harding & Pessall 21 Tracy Ryan & Jade Jones 18; Gaut & Clee 21 Carleen Doody-Millington & Shavorne Osborne 19; Shore & Neal 21 Sally Clee & Hollie Bishton 15.
