Josh Wilson loves Telford buzz says boss

AFC Telford United have hailed Josh Wilson as a 'massive signing' – as it emerged big-spending Salford City have made a last-ditch bid to snare Curtis Tilt.

Merseyside-based attacker Wilson, 27, has pledged his future to the Bucks after it's understood he rejected more lucrative deals at Stockport, Altrincham and Harrogate to stay for another year.

Manager Rob Smith believes keeping Wilson sends out a signal of intent from Telford – and could persuade other quality signings to come.

"His quality and goals kept us up so it's a massive signing," said the boss. "He could have gone elsewhere for more money, but the main thing was he always wanted to be with us.

"Hopefully him signing might attract a few more to come."

Smith believes Wilson had his head turned by the 'Bucks buzz' after experiencing the 'bounce' that accompanied the club's survival.

"I don't think he'd have signed for us again if he wasn't here last season," said Smith. "He had a taste of that 'Telford factor'. He was desperate to stay.

"The first thing he said to us was 'I only had three months of it and I want more'."

The loss of travelling partners Connor McCarthy, Sean Clancy and Mike Grogan was seen as counting against Wilson staying. But Smith added: "Hopefully we can get a car full of Scousers again and build up a little bond together."

Meanwhile, it's understood Salford City have approached Tilt's agent with an offer to join the National League North new-boys. The club is backed by Manchester United's 'Class of '92', Neville brothers Phil and Gary, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt.
