Rob Smith confident Callum Gittings will sign

AFC Telford United are hoping to make Callum Gittings their latest signing – as hopes of keeping Curtis Tilt remain in the balance.

Manager Rob Smith has held talks with 30-year-old former Kidderminster Harriers midfielder Gittings and is optimistic of a favourable response.

"We met with Callum on Thursday night and I think he will sign," said boss Rob Smith.

"He seemed keen and we'll probably sign him. He's an experienced midfielder who scores goals but also puts a foot in and he's nice on the eye.

"He was at Kidderminster for a number of years then went to Solihull last season but he didn't play a lot of football there because their midfield as so good.

"He fits the bill for us though."

Gittings, who played 16 games for the National League North champions but ended the season on loan at Leamington, came through Wolves' academy and then had spells with Redditch, loans with Alvechurch and Cinderford, who he joined permanently, followed by stints at Stourport, Tividale, Boldmere St Michaels and Alvechurch again.

But he is best known for his successful five years at Kidderminster, where he scored 21 goals in 190 games from 2010-15 and was a double player of the year in 2013/14 when he also scooped the goal of the season award.

As of last night, Tilt still had to give his answer after saying he wanted the weekend to think over offers from Telford and Salford City.

Regarding Jack Rea, hopes of him re-signing appear to be fading as it's understood he is seeking more money than the Bucks are prepared to offer.

Smith said: "The last time I spoke to him was the week before last. He said he was going to get back to me but I haven't heard from him.

"So there comes a time when that offer won't be on the table any more because so many midfielders are speaking to us.

"It doesn't look like Jack is going to sign. We've got Lucas and Lee Fowler signed and we're hopefully getting Callum and there are potentially others."
