Now in its sixth year, the Crossbar Cup is organised by Shropshire's Crossbar Coaching Education in Sport.

It continues to grow in popularity and primary schools from around the county again descended on Telford College of Arts & Technology to compete.

Year 5-6 boys teams are now looking forward to their tournament at the same venue next Wednesday June 29, with the event for girls teams to be held the following Wednesday.

Gavin Cowan, director of Crossbar, said: "The Year 3-4 boys tournament proved another fantastic day.

"All of the children had a great time, always playing with a smile on their faces even when the rain fell.

"There was a lot of ability on display but, more importantly, everyone played the game in the right way and the attitude of all the players was excellent.

"We love staging the Crossbar Cup events and our coaches also act as referees, passing on advice during the games.

"Greenfields proved to be worthy winners in the end and we now look forward to the next two tournaments."

Greenfields beat Telford's Hollinswood Primary School 1-0 in a close final after both semi-finals went to exciting penalty shootouts.

Greenfields squeezed past Condover while Hollinswood knocked out Grange Park School in an all-Telford clash.

Telford's Newdale Primary School won the Crossbar Plate after beating St Peter's C of E Primary School from Wem in the final.

Crossbar Coaching Education in Sport, a sports coaching company, deliver sport across the curriculum in many county schools, also organising competitions.

They will shortly run their first two-year full time educational programme for school leavers.
