Powys Judoka Natalie Powell claims gold
Powys Judoka Natalie Powell claimed gold at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam.
Powell started her day against Israel’s Yarden Meyersohn, going on to best World No.3 Guusje Steenhuis in the semi-final.
She capped her impressive performance in the final, beating former world champion Marhinde Verkerk to claim the gold.
“I was really pleased with the result today. I’ve been in a heavy strength block and I felt the extra strength helped today." she said, ahead of her medal ceremony.
“I’m now looking forward to going to Japan for a few weeks of training to build on my technique and intensity before the competitions at the end of the year.”
Powell’s gold meant that GB Judo finished with three medals at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam after silver and bronze for Lucy Renshall (-63kg) and Nekoda Davis (-57kg)
