Danylon Nikiforov doubles up with Open success

Concord College student Danylo Nikiforov has won his second successive Birmingham Taekwondo Open title.

Danylo, 16, won the 14- to17-year-old under 60kg championship at the Taekwondo Federation Birmingham Open – and he hopes to turn into a third next year.

He trains at Universal Taekwondo, part of the London Road Sports Centre in Shrewsbury, under instructor James Kessler. James, whose title is Master James Kessler, holds the rank of 7th Dan which is a 7th Degree Black Belt.

He said: “Danylo is a very dedicated student who manages to keep on top of his studies and training at a very high level.

“His next belt test will be for his First Degree Black Belt some time next year.”

Danylo, who plans to study law at university, has been at Concord since Form 3 (Year 9) and is in his fourth year of studying at the college.

He Danylo said of his sport: “Taekwondo, as a martial code, includes courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.”
