Shrewsbury Women's Rugby win home opener over Stone
Shrewsbury Women's Rugby Club emerged with victory in their first home game of the season as they beat Stone Ladies 52-43 in the NC 3 Midlands (West).
Grace Purtill scored Shrewsbury's first league try on home soil this season although they headed into the interval trailing 17-10 courtesy of tries by Stone trio Katie Roberts, Andrea Rhodes and Sophie Breeze.
India-Grace Humphries, Rosie Taylor and Jess Longland scored tries after the break for Shrewsbury before Grace Purtill added another pair of tries to complete her treble.
Meanwhile, Lesley Keates, Line Brondrum, Rhodes and Lauren Vipond bagged tries for the visitors to set-up a tense finale.
But Sarah Price rounded off a hard-fought win as Milly McCarrick was in inspired form with six successful conversion throughout the contest.
That win has propelled Shrewsbury after four games into third-place as they trail league leaders Kidderminster Carolians, who they boast a game in hand over, by 11 points.
After losing their opening two games at Kidderminster and Luctonians, Shrewsbury have registered back-to-back league wins after beating Barkers Butts 41-20 in their previous away fixture.
Next, Shrewsbury are set to play host to fourth-place Belper on in Shropshire on Sunday, November 24.
