Salop have had an incredibly difficult start to the season and they find themselves bottom of the third tier of English - having won two of their opening 15 games.

Previous boss Paul Hurst was relieved of his duties after the 2-1 defeat at Salford in the FA Cup almost two weeks ago, and Shrewsbury have already moved to replace him with the coup that is Ainsworth.

The new Salop gaffer has a huge job on his hands to keep Town in League One with 31 matches of the season remaining.

And in order to do that, he and his assistant Richard Dobson will need the team to win games between now and May, and Ainsworth feels there are players capable in the dressing room.

"There's definitely match winners here," the 51-year-old said at his unveiling to the press on Thursday afternoon. "I wouldn't be saying stupid things if I said we've leaked too many goals because undoubtedly we have. And the stats will say that.

"Not scoring enough is not a great recipe for a football team either. So, there are two things I want to address already.

"But there's little detail in why that happens, and I think my job as a football manager is to put together all these small details, and then the by-product is what you see on a Saturday, the performance on a Saturday.

"It's really tough because the product is the game, but there's so much work that goes into the training ground, all these details, all these little things that we try and adjust to get the better performances out and stop conceding and scoring goals. That's what we want to do."

The former Wycombe man's first game in the Shrewsbury dugout will be against Birmingham City a week on Saturday.
