There are seven weeks for the former Queens Park Rangers man to assess his Town players before having the opportunity to do business when the market opens.

Salop are in the middle of a relegation battle - they are bottom of the League One table - and one of the ways to remedy that could be by bringing in new players.

But Ainsworth, who was unveiled to the local press on Thursday at the Croud Meadow, says that will all depend on results over the next few weeks.

"It's football," he said. "If we win every game from now to January, I won't be looking at anything.

"That'll be your answer to that. We have to have our minds open. I think every single football club in this country will have lists for January.

"No matter if they need players or if they don't need players, we're no different. We have a recruitment team, we have recruitment strategies, and we'll be no different in that."

Town are set to play seven matches before they make the trip to Blackpool on New Year's Day to take on Steve Bruce's Tangerines.

And that time is going to be essential for Ainsworth to assess his squad and see how well they take on board the instructions he gives them.

"Sorry to repeat myself, but I have to assess the current squad now with games coming up and training coming up to really see what I need," he continued.

"To see what suits my style of play."Who knows, I might have a group who really do and it'd be great to see if we can get through these next few weeks and months with some victories."
