AFC Telford United strikers set a challenge amid transfer hunt

Kevin Wilkin wants his AFC Telford United strikers to show what they are all about when they take on promotion rivals Halesowen Town on Boxing Day.

The Bucks have been on the lookout for a striker for a number of weeks - a position Halesowen filled with the signing of Redditch United's Alex Cameron in recent days.

While Telford had shown interest in fellow Redditch frontman Marvellous Onabirekhanlen, Wilkin admitted a move for Cameron was never on the cards - and wants his own players to prove their worth over the festive period.

“We haven’t had any conversations with him (Cameron), and he wasn’t the one that we’ve been looking at, but he’s having a decent enough season,” the Bucks boss said. “Halesowen obviously lost Jordan Ponticelli so it looks like a replacement for him, but we’re mindful that they have a lot of good players and are capable of bringing other good players in.”

Wilkin added: “Equally, so can we, and hopefully ours can showcase what they’re all about.

“We’ve been in conversations with a couple of strikers that just haven’t materialised at the moment, but there’s one that possibly still could.

“It’s certainly the one area that I’m looking to compliment what we’ve already got there.

“We’ve got Stenno (Matty Stenson), Reece (Styche) and Ricardo (Dinanga) who have played there for us, but we’re always on the lookout for players who will add to what we are as a group.

“We had two young men go in there on Saturday and acquit themselves really well on debut, and I’m really pleased for them and their progress.”

Shrewsbury Town youngster Joe Morris joined the club on Saturday on a short-term loan, and joins Jakub Kruszynski and Harry Hawkins as the third loanee at the club.
