AFC Telford United boss can't hide delight with Boxing Day win
Manager Kevin Wilkin could not hide his delight after AFC Telford United closed the gap to second-placed Halesowen Town to a single point in the Southern Central Premier.
A 2-0 home victory over the Yeltz kept the Bucks third, but they are now within touching distance of their rivals and hold a game in hand over them.
“I’m really pleased with it,” said boss Wilkin, whose side are back in action at Hitchin Town tomorrow (3pm). “The result is the most important thing, and getting it in the way that we did, with all the lads digging in for one another at certain times.
"We played on the counter in the second period, but overall I’m pleased with how we managed the game and put ourselves in the box seat the way we did.”
Matty Stenson scored in the 20th minute to give the Bucks the platform, but it was his colleague Ricardo Dinanga’s goal in first-half injury time that really put the Bucks in control.
“Boxing Day games can be difficult and Halesowen is a really good side with good individuals who can find good moments at any time,” added Wiliin. “But we managed them well and didn’t allow too many moments.
"There were a couple in the first half where we lived a little bit dangerously, but now we can look forward to Hitchin.”
