Salop came into the game against the O's having not lost in their last four matches over the festive period.
But that was put to bed at Brisbane Road as they were beaten 1-0 by Richie Wellens' team.
Town performed well in the first half of the clash as the two teams cancelled each other out, but Orient lifted their game after the break and fully deserved their victory.
"We just ran out of a bit steam at both ends," the head coach said. "There are some positives with a 1-0 there.
"I think earlier in the season, we probably could have collapsed, and it could have been three of four.
"I am really proud that the boys have grabbed hold of what I have been saying. Going into the game, they believe they could win. That is a massive step for this club - a huge step.
"The fans were brilliant again, thank you for your applause, and the boys gave everything. It just was not good enough because Leyton Orient are a good side.
"We have been on this unbeaten run over Christmas, and that was brilliant from the boys. Even at half-time of the game, I was quite chilled thinking there was not much in this game at all.
"Second half, I think maybe we ran out of legs a little bit and the five games, with some illness too. Aaron Pierre played through some illness for me."
