Callum Wraight’s success in the Edgmond Winter Shield on December 28 was incredibly his 27th competition title triumph of 2024.

And that’s yet another new benchmark for the proud 38-year-old, who dominated the Shropshire Premier League last year to help Castlefields regain the championship.

“Winning the Edgmond Open was an amazing way to round off 2024 with a record-breaking 27 comps wins for the year – breaking the record of 26 that I set back in 2022,” said an elated Wraight. “I’m really chuffed to achieve this record as it not only rounds off an incredible year but also gives me a fantastic boost heading into the new year.”

A stunning 2024 campaign started with winning the £4,500 finals day of the Bandit Bowls winter series and continued with another triumph in the £5,660 Meole Open, then the Potteries Panel, followed by headline-grabbing performances in the £4,800 Pudsey Classic and £4,300 Rastrick Classic.

Closer to home, Wraight won opens at Burway, Bridgewater, Weston Rhyn, Allscott Heath and finally the £1,070 Edgmond Winter Shied with a 21-11 victory over fellow county legend Peter Farmer in the final.

“All this couldn’t have been possible without the support from Zoe (his partner and mother of their three young children) and the family,” said Wraight. “And also all of my sponsors who have been a tremendous help to my success - and I just hope that I can secure their continued support for 2025!”

But Wraight has already had some good news on that front, adding: “I have managed to secure a new sponsor deal with Veezu, who are the taxi company that I work for.

“And their new backing has been greatly appreciated.”
