The Bucks have had a ten-day break since their last Southern Central Premier clash, a 4-0 defeat at Stratford Town, and came together for a practice match against Aston Villa Under-21s last weekend.

And after some honest discussions, it is clear that the AFC Telford United squad know where their problems lie.

“It hasn’t been a case of setting the world to rights because if we’re honest we’ve known about these problems for a while,” Wilkin said. “We know we’ve gifted teams too many goals, and that’s far away from what we were built on last season.”

He added: “We need to show the right mentality every week, and I need to keep their concentration levels up, so they are seeing the danger regardless of the situation.

“Up until Stratford we were doing okay at six games unbeaten, but some of the draws in those games really should have been wins given the chances we had.

“Whenever we’ve had the opportunity to take ourselves near the pinnacle of it we haven’t done so.

“Those two Monday night games (against Barwell and Redditch) were moments that passed us by, and there have been other moments as well.

“What I do know is I’ve had experience of being in these kinds of positions, and I understand what it takes to come through them.

“There’s no lack of effort and endeavour within the group, but sometimes our opponents have very capable players who can get the better of us.

“To win the league you’ve got to have players at the top of their game all the time, and one or two of us have had an indifferent time of it this season.”
