John Marquis netted either side of a Steven Fletcher equaliser, as a dogged Salop side battled to the end to keep out their promotion chasing rivals.
It was a huge win for Salop as they moved up to the edge of the drop zone and just five points clear of safety.
They have picked up eight points from their last five games - and Salop's goalkeeper Jamal Blackman believes that their recent form should sound as a warning to their relegation rivals.
Blackman, who recently arrived at the club on a short term deal until the end of the season, put in another fine display against their local rivals.
He told Sky Sports: "It is obviously hard against a team that is well in form, but we landed together and did what the gaffer wants us to do and it showed.
"We have had a few games now where we are building as a team bit by bit.
"We're scoring more goals and we are conceding less too.
"That shows other teams to be fearful that we are climbing up the table."
His words were echoed by striker George Lloyd, who also put in a workman like display up front for Ainsworth's side in their memorable victory.
He heaped praise on Salop's tight knit dressing room, and insisting all of the small Salop squad are on the same page.
He added: "It was unbelievable, the best atmosphere I have played in.
"We've got a tight knit group in the changing rooms, we are right behind each others backs and if we didn't win tonight we would still be with each other.
"We are all on this level at the moment, we have had four of five good results and only one loss and we just want to keep it going and move forward."
