Non-league previews: Telford Town boss on his side's 'superpower'
‘Our superpower is our togetherness’ according to high-flying Telford Town manager Matthew Boswell.
Town are 15 points clear at the top of the West Midlands League Premier Division with only one loss all season.
Boswell is confident ahead of their game against Wyrley after league top-scorer Ryan Mansell turned down an approach from a higher division side to stay at Telford, and former midfielder Lewis Hayden returned to the club.
Boswell said: “Our superpower is our togetherness, is our team spirit. It's the atmosphere that we create.
“It's the fact that we all know we're in it together and we fight for each other, and we've always done that since my arrival at the club. We've always done that.
“The players are not only teammates, but they’re friends, and they spend a lot of time together after games.
“Consistently at the clubhouse, or later on in the evening, they like spending time with each other, they socialise together.
“So yeah, it's a superpower that we have. It's something we've got to build on. I think that really helps.
“Certainly, with players wanting to stay involved and wanting to return to the club, it's a massive asset. we've always said we founded ourselves on not only recruiting good footballers, but more importantly strong characters, good people.
“We don't have superstars; we just have a group of really good people.”
Wyrley are 12th in the division, but Boswell isn’t expecting an easy game: “Interesting team. Although they’re towards the bottom of the league, they certainly don't take many beatings.
“They're competitive in games. I believe they've added to their squad, so I'm expecting to go there and face a tough game.
“They never really have games where they get thrashed three, four, five six nil. They don't. They're not that team.
“They're much more defensively compact than that and they've got threat going forward. So, I think it's going to be a tough game. We've got to be ready for it.”
Shifnal Town are riding high in the Midland League Premier Division, sitting 10 points off the top with three games in hand before they travel to OJM Black Country.
