At the beginning of the day, Salop were five points off 20th-place Bristol Rovers, but their 3-1 win at home to Barnsley means they move up to 18th.

Northampton now occupy the place above the relegation zone after they lost at home to Lincoln City 1-0.

There was a relegation six-pointer between Crawley and Burton Albion - that ended with a 1-1 draw which saw Crawley leapfrog Town.

Marko Marosi, former Salop keeper, made his debut for Cambridge United - Town's relegation rivals - and his side were on the receiving end of a late Bolton comeback - they scored in the 90th minute to snatch a 2-2 draw.

Overall, it is not a disastrous day. Salop made significant progress in the league table on Thursday night when they beat Wrexham in the cross-border derby.

They will want to back that up now when they go to The Valley next weekend to play Charlton who lost 4-2 at Rotherham.

Elsewhere, Tom Bloxham, the former Shrewsbury Town winger, went straight into the starting XI after joining Blackpool this week, for their game against Huddersfield at Bloomfield Road.

It took just 11 minutes to make an impact by the seaside as he registered an assist for Rob Apter, which put the Tangerines in front.

He played 83 minutes in the match - which ended 2-2 as the Terriers came from two down to get a point.
