The match - which saw Town beat Wrexham 2-1 thanks to a John Marquis brace - was a feisty affair which had to be stopped at one stage with stewards and police having to form a barricade on the pitch as James McClean tried to take a throw-in.

Play was halted for a brief moment, and it is claimed objects were thrown at the Northern Irishman.

And Salop have reminded supporters that it is a criminal offence to throw missiles or use pyrotechnic devices - saying they will not tolerate behaviour that puts others at risk.

Three supporters have received temporary bans, while the incidents are investigated.

Meanwhile, a fourth supporter received an extended ban after breaching an existing order.

Town say they are working with West Mercia Police, who are conducting investigations - and it is understood this matter is also being looked into by the FA.

The club statement said: "Further to the incidents at our game against Wrexham last Thursday, supporters are reminded that throwing missiles and the possession/use of pyrotechnic devices are both criminal offences.

"The club will not tolerate criminal or anti-social behaviour that puts the safety of others at risk.

"We have been actively investigating several incidents since Thursday night while supporting West Mercia Police in further investigations.

"Three supporters have been issued bans pending further investigation so far, and one supporter has received an extended ban for breach of an existing order."

McClean responded to the trouble last Thursday night on his Instagram account on Saturday morning with the caption: “In fairness if I was born and raised in Shrewsbury I'd probably be this angry as well cause it's an absolute cesspit full of inbreds.”

He later deleted the post.
