Kevin Wilkin discusses future of three AFC Telford loanees
AFC Telford United boss Kevin Wilkin has confirmed both Jakub Kruszynski and Joe Morris have been recalled by their parent clubs, but may not have played their last games for the club.
The pair were surprise omissions from the Bucks’ matchday squad for Tuesday evening’s 6-2 thrashing of Bedford United, as Wilkin was only able to name three substitutes on the bench.
And with fellow-loanee Alex Gudger also absent, the Telford boss explained the current situation surrounding all three players ahead of this weekend’s meeting with Harborough Town.
“Jakub got recalled on Tuesday afternoon because he still has an issue with his knee, and he and the medical staff at Mansfield are still unhappy about it,” Wilkin revealed. “It wasn’t down to the academy manager or anything like that, it was their medical team that made that decision which is a shame.”
He added: “They decided to recall him and rule him out of any further football until they feel confident enough to let him go and play.
“It was late in the day when the decision was made, and had it not happened he would’ve been playing on Tuesday night.”
Discussing Salop-loanee Joe Morris’ absence, Wilkin explained: “Shrewsbury were really good. They told me on Monday that Joe was going to be in their matchday squad so they had to recall him but depending on how things go with injuries to their more regular first team players there’s a chance he could be back with us.”
The Telford boss also cut a frustrated figure when discussing the status of experienced defender Alex Gudger, who is on a season-long loan from Wilkin’s old club Brackley.
He said: “At late notice on Tuesday evening Alex told me his hamstring was tight, and that he was unavailable to be considered for selection.”
