Marosi sustained a hamstring injury playing for Gary Monk's side last weekend against Mansfield - the team Shrewsbury come up against on Saturday.

The 31-year-old was making just his second appearance for the U's after signing just a few weeks back.

The former Salop number one was not the only Cambridge player to pick an injury in the game, Zeno Ibsen Rossi could also be facing a spell out of the team.

"It was an innocuous couple of incidents," Garry Monk said.

"We won't know the diagnosis till they're scanned, but from your gut [instinct] they're not going to be short-term ones, are they?

"It's just typical - we seem to be facing a lot of that. We'll just deal with it again, but it's a huge blow."

Marosi, who made 133 league starts for Shrewsbury after joining from Coventry, left Town at the conclusion of last season.

He had the option of an extra year on his Salop contract, but Shrews opted not to take it up - instead, they offered the experienced shot-stopper fresh terms.

The keeper declined the club's offer, and he left. In his farewell message, he highlighted their 12th-place finish in the 2022/23 season as one of his favourite moments in a Town shirt.

In mid-September, Marosi found a new club. He was signed by England legend Wayne Rooney at Plymouth Argyle on a short-term deal until January.

After leaving the Pilgrims, the keeper signed a deal with Salop's relegation rivals Cambridge and has since picked up his current injury.
