Top-of-the-table clash for The New Saints
The New Saints host Penybont in a huge top-of-the-table clash at Park Hall tomorrow (12.15pm), writes Stuart Dunn.
Leaders Saints are three points clear of second-placed Penybont and also have a game in hand on the Bridgend-based club.
TNS extended their winning run in the JD Cymru Premier to six victories in a row with a 3-1 home win over Cardiff Metropolitan University last weekend.
TNS head coach Craig Harrison, looking ahead to tomorrow’s meeting between the top two, said: “It’s another big game. They’re all big games at this moment in time.
“Penybont have had an unbelievably great season. They’ve got a really good manager, good players, and they’re up there, so we know it’s going to be a tough game. We know it’s going to be a tight game.
"They’ve obviously beat us away from home, we beat them at home in the first phase.
“More importantly, it’s about our performance again. We’ve had another good week’s training this week. That’s where I think we’ve been missing.
“With the European games and catch-up games, we’ve had no training rhythm.
"Over the last three weeks, we’ve had some good training rhythm and, certainly from the performances that I’m looking at, and what I want out of the games, you can certainly tell in the performances that we’ve had some good training sessions.”
Harrison was pleased to add Louis Phillips to the TNS squad last week after Saints signed the winger from JD Cymru South club Newport City.
“He’s got a lovely left foot, he’s got good pace, he’s got good balance,” added Harrison. "He’s got all the potential to be a typical TNS winger.”
Harrison has also welcomed the return to Park Hall of striker Gwion Dafydd following a successful loan spell at JD Cymru North club Colwyn Bay.
“Gwion’s done fantastic for Colwyn Bay,” said Harrison.
TNS, meanwhile, have allowed defender Ben Woollam to join Bala Town on loan for the rest of the season.
