Taylor Perry and John Marquis scored to register a 2-1 victory for Salop in south Yorkshire - their first on the road under Gareth Ainsworth.

The victory saw Shrewsbury win back-to-back league matches for the first time in two years and gave their hopes of third-tier survival this season another massive boost.

REPORT

Gareth Ainsworth made one change to the team who beat Mansfield last weekend - Morgan Feeney returned after his neck injury - he replaced Toto Nsiala, who missed out through suspension.

There was only three shots in the entirety of the first 45 minutes in south Yorkshire - all going to the hosts - however none of them were memorable.

The Millers had lost to Bradford in the EFL Trophy in midweek but had won their last three League One home games.

They were not inspiring in the first period at the New York Stadium though and they looked short of ideas against a stubborn Salop team.

Ainsworth's side, who had been in improved form heading into this clash, kept their hosts quiet in the first half, but aside from a late Josh Feeney header, they did not threaten either.

Within 10 minutes of the re-start, Town hit the bar with the first real chance of the game - John Marquis' lofted effort landed on the woodwork and went behind for a goal kick.

Town were appealing for a penalty moments later when Hakeem Odoffin, the Rotherham skipper, kicked George Lloyd in the face in the box - the Town coaching staff were furious, but nothing was given.

And midway through the second the half Shrewsbury took the lead in the game when Perry scored after a Shrewsbury break.

Marquis' initial effort was saved by Phillips, but the ball came out to Perry and he superbly placed it into the corner.

What followed was quite remarkable. Odoffin levelled for the hosts when he headed in from close range, but that did not last a minute.

Perry the provider this time,  he got to the by-line, crossed for Marquis who finished from close range as Salop regained the lead and they clung on.
