Salop's good form continued on Tuesday night as they took a point away from the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

After John Marquis missed an early penalty, Jayden Wareham put Reading ahead before Taylor Perry scored again to bring Ainsworth's side level just before the hour mark.

Shrewsbury signed Callum Stewart and Ricardo Dinanga in January, but aside from the odd substitute appearance for Stewart, neither of the two youngsters have featured regularly.

And Ainsworth says Town are looking to organise some friendlies, partly so he can have a look at the players, but also to give them the chance to get up to match sharpness.

"I thought Callum Stewart looked quite lively when he came on," he said. "We might have landed on one there. The free agents might not be as good as what is in the building - that is really good.

"No one has seen (Ricardo) Dinanga yet, not even me in a game, so I want to look at him - we are going to try and get some bounce games (friendlies) going.

"But without risking the legs of all the players.

"So there could be some friendlies which will feature some of the young lads. That is something I want to try and do with the future of the club.

"We can have a team where people play regularly and get up to fitness. We are a long way off that yet - it is about staying in League One.

"It is about the performance and attitude that I saw on Tuesday night - more and more of that."

The result in Berkshire leaves Town within touching distance of 20-placed Peterborough - who lost again on Tuesday night at Charlton.

They are now three points from safety, but the boss is adamant his side are not the finished article yet.

"We are not there yet," he continued. "We are still building, and we are still getting better.

"That is the promising thing about these performances against Rotherham and Reading.

"I know what my peak is, and I will get these boys to their peak, but it is nice to see they are picking up points."
