AFC Telford boss frustrated with Byron Moore injury

Kevin Wilkin has admitted he has been left frustrated by the length of time it has taken AFC Telford United midfielder Byron Moore to return from injury.

The Bucks boss has struggled to name a full quota of substitutes several times already this season after a series of injuries and has been without Moore in all but one game since the Boxing Day victory over Halesowen Town.

That game came against Stamford, during which the veteran midfielder was withdrawn after just 40 minutes with another issue with his calf.

When asked who is making the decision to keep the 36-year-old from training and playing Wilkin simply replied: “That would be him.”

He continued: “Byron has been doing some running and we expected him to train on Tuesday, but he wasn’t able to.

“He’s had a recurrence of the injury that he already had which is disappointing, because it’s been a long time with that injury now.

“We would’ve hoped to see him back involved before now really.”

The Telford boss also confirmed that the absence relates to a calf injury that he picked up in December, and that he was expected to return much earlier.

“It appears to be a calf strain, but for it to carry on for this duration there might be something more that we have to look at,” Wilkin said. “He was out for, I think, four weeks before he returned, played half a game and has been out for another four weeks, and with that sort of injury he should be back by now really.”

The Bucks have been dealt another injury blow too after last weekend, with captain Sam Whittall picking up a hamstring injury that Wilkin confirmed looks likely to sideline him for ‘at least three weeks.’
