Back in February last year, he was a late 83rd minute substitute as Albion beat Birmingham City with a goal from Andi Weimann.

It was to be the last time he featured in a home game, before his cruel second Achilles injury that led to yet another lengthy injury lay off.

He returned as a second half change in the draw at Millwall last week - marking another remarkable comeback.

Dike's injury woes since joining Albion in January 2022 can be underlined by the fact that an appearance against Millwall on Saturday will only be the 16th time he will have featured in a home game since his arrival.

The hope was he came through last week's trip to London unscathed and that seems to be the case.

But despite the fact he is now back in the first team fold, he is not able to start games yet and Tony Mowbray has revealed that Albion's medical staff are still managing his training.

The Baggies boss also gave a brief update on Jed Wallace, who has been ruled out with a calf injury.

He said: "Daryl is still in the mode where the medical team look after him - he doesn't train every day, they manage his minutes through the working week.

"He didn't train today, for instance, but he'll certainly train Friday and we'll see how he is.

"We just have to keep seeing if we can get him game time from the bench as we go along for the immediate future.

"The club has put something out about Jed's calf, which isn't ideal. He won't be featuring this weekend, but let's see how long it'll be. Generally, apart from that, everything is else is good."
