Stunning successes for Bowring and Bylet

It was close throughout with the games split 2-2 in each four, but sizeable wins in the back four from Harries and Jason Groom helped Bylet claim the aggregate.

There had earlier been a stunning performance from Jamie Taylor who came from 13-1 down to win to 16. while Scott Harries was the best winner, 21-8 against Ian Gaut.

Home captain Tony Rhodes had tried his best to pull it back by being best winner 21-10 but it was in vain as St Georges lost their first home game since 2014 against Newport.

“The rain may have helped a little but it was a terrific team performance,” said skipper Harries. “The first game of the season was a bit of a eye-opener but we’ve had some good results since then.

“Tony and his team were very complementary to us after and that was nice to hear because I don’t think we were lucky, it was a really good display. In bowls you can play brilliantly one week and like idiots the next, but the best teams don’t do that and hopefully we are getting there.”

Hanwood enjoyed a repeat of their 2016 scoreline at home to Chester Road, another 13-1 success.

Paul Latham was the visitors’ only winner, while Ash Wellings was in fine form for Hanwood, going from 1-1 to lead 16-1 on 3/4 corner mark and won to seven. At same time Nick Davies reversed a 8-1 deficit to win 21-9.

Burway picked up a 10-4 home success against Wem USC, Ben Allen their star man in beating Paul Gleave 21-6.
