Nevertheless, Castlefields skipper Mark Taylor was delighted with the result.

“It is a little disappointing we couldn’t get those extra few chalks as it would have given us an extra four points,” said Taylor.

“It’s a shame we got so close to winning but it’s still a good away result on the back of beating them at home two weeks earlier.

“I think some of our new players are starting to find their feet in the team and the results are starting to improve.”

Colin Beaman got a pivotal big win for the home side, 21-10 over Paul Williams, while Nicky Jones’s 21-9 success over Josh Bradburn was the top effort for Castlefields.

Honest St Georges skipper Glyn Picknell admitted staying up is now the sole focus for his side.

“It was a disappointing result and we are now in a relegation dogfight, there’s no doubt about it,” he said.

“The weather was a bit of a leveller but they are a good side and played better than us.

“Fortunately we scraped the aggregate, which was a bonus because you wouldn’t expect that with three winners.

“There’s a bit of a lack of confidence and that’s where we are at at the moment. All we must do now is make sure we stay in the Premier Division.”

Martin Gaut was the sole winner for Wrockwardine Wood as they went down to a 9-1 (167-101) defeat at Great Barr in Feeder A.

Hadley USC were also on the receiving end of a 9-1 loss at Baddesley in Feeder B.

Sir John Bayley signed off for their mini-break with a comfortable 7-3 (160-121) win at home to Boldmere St Michaels in Division Two.

Joint-skipper Michael Cooper enjoyed an emphatic 21-5 win but Dave Wall picked up the MVP for his 21-8 victory over Colin Weaver.

Table-topping Bayley have the next two Mondays off and Cooper said: “It will be nice to have a break.

“It was a difficult green with all the rain but we seem to be getting some good results at home.

“We have got a young side but we have a good squad to choose from and can be in the top two come the end of the season.”
