Trio of greens fall by wayside

News of three more bowling greens going out of use in Shrewsbury was a bitter pill for delegates to swallow at the latest county executive meeting.

Abbey’s dwindling membership made the continuing use of their home green unsustainable so they have moved to play at the nearby Monkmoor pub.

And both greens at Bagley in Coton Hill have now fallen by the wayside with their bowlers setting up base on Castlefields’ No.2 green and renaming the club as Castlefields-GWR.

There were no nominations to succeed Pauline Wilson as county development officer so officers are now considering splitting the role into two. But the more encouraging news was that registrar Marie Scott has dealt with 33 new player registrations before the season has even started and that new rules aimed at boosting entries for the inter-league competitions were approved.
