'Slammer' had been initially scheduled to fight Sheffield's Jez Wilson in Wolverhampton for the title on September 28 but, following the show's cancellation, his management have moved to secure an alternative opponent for the same title on the following night.

Gray, who has a record of five wins, one drawn and eight losses, is now expected to take on the unpredictable Cello Renda in his home town of Peterborough on September 29.

Renda has won 19 fights with 11 knockouts but has also been knocked out five times himself in his nine defeats and has just one draw on his record.

Speaking about his upcoming fight, Gray said: "He's a decent fighter on his way back after a couple of months out with injury. The fight is scheduled for just a day after the first one, so my training won't be affected."

Gray's initial bout with Wilson was called off and the bill axed after headline act Jason Welborn pulled out of his bout with Lithuanian Arvydas Trizno due to an ear infection.

But Gray insists fighting away in Peterborough will not affect him.

He said: "I don't mind at all going down to Peterborough to win the belt."
