A massive re-brand of the unpaid code saw the ABA re-named England Boxing at the start of the year, to comply with International Boxing Association rules.

The new regulations state that fighters aged 18 or above must ditch the head-guards, which first took effect then the old ABA senior tournament took place as the Elite championships.

Now it will be introduced into the Development competition, split into two sections. Class A is for boxers who have had two to 10 fights, while Class B is for boxers with 11 to 20 bouts under their belt.

It's early success will be measured on 13 championship contests to produce area champions as the West Midlands, West Mercia and Birmingham sections merge.

It will be staged by Tristan Davies' Donnington Boxing Club at the area's Sports & Social venue, on Turreff Avenue.

Donnington trainer Dan Bent competes at 69kg in Class A, while the club are also putting on two bouts outside of the championships.

Macauley Owen will take on Pleck's James Beech, an Elite semi-finalist earlier this year, at 58kg. Bradley Thompson also goes up against Jagbir Mann, from Amphion ABC in Darlaston, at 32kg.

Spectators are welcome to attend, with entry £10 for adults and £5 for children. Combatants tip the scales between 10am-12pm, with boxing starting soon after.
