Shropshire duo go out to prove a point
Shropshire duo Idris Mohammed and Chadd Woodfield will be among those looking to prove who is the best in the Midlands on Sunday.
The West Midlands champions are in the reckoning for the revived National Association of Girls & Boys tournament,
Woodfield has switched from Ludlow to the renamed Len Woodhall Community Club - formerly Telford & Wrekin - starting from this event.
The 16-year-old sat out last weekend's NAGBC bouts, having already made sure of progression at 66kg in Class B, for boxers born in 1999.
A unanimous points victory over Birmingham City's Hakeem Ali-Hussain secured passage through to meet his East Midlands counterpart.
He's now back at the Triumph Social Club in Coventry to take on two-time national finalist Patrick Smith, from Kings Heath in Northampton.
Coach and dad Colin Woodfield said: "We've been looking to get this fight, we've asked for it on club show but they wouldn't give it to us.
"He's a come forward fighter and a strong boy, he throws lots of shots and smothers his opponent's work, but we think he's beatable.
"Chadd can stand off and box him or go toe-to-toe for the tear up, he's good at adapting. He's training well and picking up different things.
"He's aware this lad can punch, so he needs to be elusive on his feet. With good movement, it could also open him up for attacks."
Wellington's Mohammed boxes for the third time in the competition on Sunday against Thomas Hessin, from Waterfront in Leicester.
Mohammed came through the Class B 70kg pack, first by defeating Worcester City's Jay Attwood unanimously at the Triumph venue.
Then he vied with Stoke Staffs' David Stacey in Hinckley last weekend for West Midlands honours and again bossed the bout unanimously.
Wellington's Husan Hussain, the club's first national champion in the England Juniors this year, has another bye at 48kg in Class B.
Namesake and club-mate Hamza Hussain bowed out of the West Midlands final to Bulkington's Leonard Hughes at 52kg in Class A (2000).
