Super Cooper shines in Shropshire's win

Shropshire's Under-17 girls were rewarded for their battling performances at the Malvern Festival when they claimed victory over Devon on the final day.

It followed on from two close-fought games against Yorkshire and Warwickshire where the side had batted well but failed to claim victory.

A strong batting performance against Devon saw them smash an impressive 262-2 off their 45 overs, with Courtney Cooper hitting 92.

Milly Home was in the runs again, after a century earlier in the week, with 54 and Eve Poole and Kate Green both notched 29.

They then restricted Devon to 202-9 to claim a deserved victory by 60 runs.

Against Yorkshire, skipper Lara Jones scored 61, Home chipped in with 34 and Kate Green hit an unbeaten 45 as Shropshire finished on 190-4.

It was not quite enough for victory as Yorkshire chased down the target with three wickets to spare. Nyah Edwards claimed two wickets.

The other game saw Home claim an unbeaten century as Shropshire went down by four wickets to Warwickshire.

Cricket Shropshire development officer Ian Gregory said: "The girls had a great few days in Malvern, the batting performances were especially pleasing.

"It was good that they were rewarded for their efforts with the victory over Devon on the last day."

In the ECB T20 competition, Shropshire's women's side travelled to Geddington CC in Northamptonshire for their fourth and final day.

They hope to salvage some pride from what has been a challenging campaign in their first year in Division Three.

But the day again ended in disappointment after they twice managed to play themselves into promising positions.

Scotland recovered from 51-3 to post 120-6 with Shropshire dismissed for 69 in reply.

In the second game against the hosts, Shropshire posted 91-7 with Bethan Ellis 38 not out.

Shropshire had Northants 36-4 after 10 overs, but an unbeaten fifth-wicket stand saw them home.
