Having had to settle for a winning draw against Frankton on the opening day, Whitchurch’s intent to register a first victory of the season was clear as opener Huxley plundered 114, hitting 14 fours in the process.

Ijaz Yousaf, a centurion himself a week earlier, added 49 as Whitchurch rattled up 238-9, despite an impressive performance with the ball from Dan Cohen, who claimed 6-59 from 15 overs.

Dan Bowen, one of Whitchurch’s two winter signings from Oswestry, then grabbed 4-42 and Andrew Ince was also to the fore with 3-23 as Wem, for whom Tom Astley made 42, were dismissed for 151.

Frankton were involved in a high-scoring losing draw at St Georges.

St Georges compiled a huge 349-4 from their 50 overs, with opener Gareth Hughes hitting 93,

Jordan Parry and Scott Hale held the Frankton reply together as the Hardwick Park men, despite losing six of their batsmen without scoring, closed on 248-8.

Parry struck an excellent 102 and Hale just ran out of time to join him in the century club, ending unbeaten on 98, as Frankton emerged with nine points and St Georges with 17.
