Will Fox-Davies hits runs record for six
Will Fox-Davies entered the Henshalls Insurance Shropshire County Cricket League record books on Saturday as he set a new mark for the highest individual score since the league was formed in 2012.
Batting at No.4, Fox-Davies came to the crease with Worfield second XI in some trouble at 10-2 and proceeded to smash an incredible 264 not out off 91 balls.
It beat the previous best of 235 by Avi Mathur of Church Aston against Wroxeter Grove 3rd XI in August, 2015.
The skipper’s innings, also a club record, included 22 sixes as Worfield racked up a huge 411-3 declared in just 38 overs.
Piers Rouwenhorst then took 6-11 with the ball as Knockin & Kinnerley were bowled out for 114 in the 29th over, Worfield winning the Division One second XI clash by the massive margin of 297 runs.
Fox Davies, who is in his second season with Worfield seconds but his first as captain, said: “I’m still getting over it.
“We were in a bit of trouble and I almost sent my (older) brother (Charlie) in as he’s a bit more of a sensible batsman, but in the end I thought I’d go in and try to do it myself.
“I was with Harvey Sage and we just clicked, before we knew it we were going along at 10 an over.
“I had a feeling it would be one of the fastest hundreds when I reached that, but I never really thought it would go beyond that.
“I wanted Harvey to get to a hundred but when he got out I wanted to get past 400 before declaring.
“Charlie was in there with me at the end and he’s still a bit gobsmacked, he can’t get over it!
“I’ll try to do it again this Saturday – or even beat it!”
A club spokesman said: “Will Fox-Davies and youngster Harvey Sage put on an incredible display of batting that will be long remember by those who witnessed it.”
