Kids are alright for Wellington

Wellington will be looking for their talented youngsters to build on the impressive progress they made last summer.

A truncated season that saw the top flight split into two groups, ended with Wellington topping their respective league table before clinching overall glory with a play-off final success against Quatt.

A number of young players flourished under the guidance of experienced skipper Wendell Wagner and that will be the hope again this summer.

“We did ok last year so there was no great need for signings,” said head coach Ross Edwards, who has seen wicketkeeper/batsman Sam Roberts join from Ludlow while opening batsman Matt Bakin and wicketkeeper Matt Denver have left to join St Georges and Shifnal respectively.

“We are continuing along the same route as last season, we are looking to invest in our kids from the academy.

“The lads that we bloodied last year are a year older and more experienced and that’s good for us.”

“Adithya Manigandan, Matthew Lamb and Will Lewin all stepped up and did well last year.

“Matthew was the batter that won us the final with a very composed display, Will got useful runs and Adithya picked up wickets in a few good wins.

“They were all 15-16 last year and to have three under 16s in the team bodes well for the future.”
