Warrick Fynn is happy with new signings
Oswestry skipper Warrick Fynn feels the winter additions of his Shropshire colleagues David Laird and Ryan Lockley have helped ‘round off’ his side.
The Morda Road men begin their Birmingham League Premier Division Two campaign this weekend having boosted their pack during the close-season.
Right-handed batsman and wicketkeeper Lockley has signed from league rivals Halesowen, while all-rounder Laird, who previously turned out for Newtown and Bridgnorth, checked in from Shropshire County League outfit Sentinel.
Both have minor county league experience alongside Durban-born Fynn, who said: “We retained everybody and we’ve gained two very positive signings.
“Ryan Lockley and David Laird, both in the Shropshire squad and set-up, they will be fantastic assets for us.
“I’ve known Ryan for a long time, it’s my first time getting to know David but they bring a lot to the table and have fitted in very well.
“Most importantly they have filled the gaps we really needed to fill, with bat, ball and wicketkeeper.
“They bring a lot to the table, they’ve rounded us off as a team very nicely.”
Fynn revealed Oswestry enjoyed a ‘very positive’ friendly run-out against Sentinel last week.
Oswestry finished fifth from six in last year’s shortened Graham Williamson Trophy with four wins and five defeats, but were very impressive at their Morda home.
They open up away to old foes Harborne tomorrow lunchtime. Oswestry finished fourth in the 2019 Premier Division Two, one place below Harborne, but spoiled the Birmingham side’s party hopes by denying them promotion at the end of the campaign.
“We took all the positives from last season, in terms of blooding new players and really preparing for this season,” Fynn added. “We took it very seriously.
“We got positions in place, we won all of our home games, I got to see a lot more of the squad. It really worked out well for this season, we’re a settled unit.”
