Dean Keates: Wrexham will fire again

Having been six unbeaten in the National League, the Dragons suffered their heaviest league defeat of the season in Hampshire.

Aldershot took the lead when Alfie Whittingham’s cross evaded Christian Dibble, allowing Joel Nouble to tap into the empty net.

Nouble then got another via a hefty deflection after the break before Jermaine Anderson made sure of the three points for the hosts.

“We turned up for 15 minutes and we should have been out of sight,” said Keates, with Dior Angus missing a few early opportunities.

“There is no denying that, but we didn’t take our chances.

“Then there was a mistake. Fair play to Christian as he made a few saves after that and his concentration came back.

“But it’s just unfortunate what happened because as a goalkeeper, it gets highlighted.

“He knows that, and there’s no point in me coming down on him like a ton of bricks.

“We’ll stay united and we have to learn from it.”

A disappointing defeat, but Wrexham remain in the play-off places – albeit the last one in seventh, on 35 points.

They host Hartlepool tomorrow night (7pm) before another game at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday, against Wealdstone.

On going up against on third-placed Hartlepool, Keates added: “We’ve got to react, that’s all we can do.

“We’ve got to look at it and make sure that we learn from it.

“At points in the second half, we could’ve been a bit more direct.

“And on another day, we might have had a few penalties.

“I’m not going to go on about referees, so we’ll go again on Tuesday night.”
