Salop have conceded eight times in the last two matches as they have been thrashed by Cambridge and Wycombe Wanderers.

But their defensive mistakes go way further back than that, with Shrews conceding 39 times in their 19 League One games.

Salop's 4-1 home defeat to the Chairboys was their third consecutive loss under Ainsworth, and he has admitted he is going to have to change something to turn Salop's fortunes around

."Disappointing again," he said on his side's display.

"I said to the boys at half-time that team talk would have been so different if they had just been secure for 30 seconds more before the break.

"We concede a corner. We have let goals in at crucial times at this club all season, not just since I came in.

"Maybe I have got to have a look at setting this team up differently because the way I have come in and the way I have managed and set my teams up in the past with a decent win rate. Does not seem to be working.

"As a manager, I have always said that my strength is getting the best out of the players that I have, not employing a system that they have to do.

"I might have to adjust a little bit and see how we can be more solid because we are just shipping way too many goals.

"The referee did not help today in my opinion. I thought there was a foul before the first goal."

Goals from Beryly Lubala and Caleb Taylor saw Shrews trail by two at the break for the second week running.

Then Fred Onyedinma and former Salop fan favourite Dan Udoh, who returned to the Croud Meadow for the first time since he left this summer, scored to make it four.

That was either side of a free-kick by Jordan Shipley giving Salop fans a solitary moment to cheer.

"We have got to give ourselves a chance in games," Ainsworth continued.

"We are scoring but we are just putting ourselves out of games with the way we are defending and conceding too easily. That is something I have got to look at. That is on me.

"Don't put it on the players they give everything they are doing what I am asking, it is just that we are probably starting in a race we are a few yards behind in because of the way things have gone in League One.

"There are some fantastic teams, who have spent a lot of money and there are ex-Premier League players on this pitch today.

"Their centre-halves were dominant today they did not give much change although John (Marquis) battled away.

"But we are few and far between and that is what you get when you sign really good players and we have not been able to do that this year."
