Telford loan Bolton's Glenn Matthews

AFC Telford have moved to strengthen their Conference survival fight with the signing of Bolton youngster Glenn Matthews.

The 20-year-old, who is a product of the Championship club's academy, has joined the Bucks on a month's loan.

Versatile Matthews will boost Telford's left side of the team and is expected to be available tomorrow night – whoever the Bucks play.

Manager Steve Kittrick said: "Glenn is coming in on a month's loan and it will be done today.

"He can play anywhere down the left-hand side which is good for us and gives us different options.

"He is a hungry player – he's got something about him and Bolton want him to come out on loan and see how much football he can get.

"He is a young man who has been on the periphery of Bolton's Under-21 team as well as the first team."

Kittrick is expected to continue to strengthen his squad with another signing in the pipeline which he hopes to complete shortly.

And he is hoping Matthews can join his new team-mates tomorrow night – even though the league game against FC Halifax has been postponed due to the Shaymen having an FA Trophy replay at home to Dartford following a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

"We're disappointed but we're hoping to arrange another fixture for tomorrow night," added Kittrick.

Despite not playing at the weekend, the Bucks boss was encouraged with the results elsewhere.

Kittrick watched second-from-bottom Nuneaton's 2-0 defeat at home to Grimsby on a day when Southport were hammered 4-0 by leaders Barnet.

Telford now have four games in hand on Nuneaton and are nine points adrift of Southport, who are in the first 'safe' spot in fifth from bottom of the table.
