Steve Kittrick: Fans were right to boo

AFC Telford boss Steve Kittrick said the club's supporters were right to boo his team following their hugely disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Alfreton on Saturday.

The Bucks, who remain 10 points adrift of safety at the bottom of the Conference Premier, had been targeting a desperately-needed three points against one of their rivals for the drop.

But they failed to fire and slumped to a damaging defeat – their fourth in a row – which saw the players booed off at full-time.

And Kittrick said; "They were probably right. The crowd haven't been bad. They are going to boo them.

"They come every week and I understand the frustration from supporters because they want them to do well.

"They are entitled to have their say and I am not going to hide from anyone."

The former Guiseley chief also revealed he came in for criticism from a handful of supporters at the end of the game following some of his post-match comments from the previous weekend.

Following Telford's 3-0 defeat at Forest Green last Saturday Kittrick had said: "There are players that aren't good enough. There's too many Conference North players."

And he said on Saturday: "Some supporters had words with me. They weren't abusive, they just asked certain questions.

"One of the things they said was that last week when I said that four of five of them were not good enough they think that had an adverse effect.

"But I said if you had been there on Tuesday at Grimsby it didn't have that effect. I say things for a reaction, and that is what I did."

Club captain Ian Sharps also admitted the team had misfired badly against Alfreton, who escaped the relegation zone with their victory.

He said: "We didn't play very well on the ball on Saturday but the effort was there. Everyone gave everything they have got.

"We just weren't good enough on the ball. Alfreton came with a game plan, to play in the counter-attack, which has worked perfectly for them and we didn't have the quality to break them down."
