Former AFC Telford boss Mark Cooper replaced by chairman at Swindon

Former AFC Telford boss Mark Cooper has been replaced as Swindon manager by the League One club's chairman.

Robins chairman Lee Power is to take temporary charge of the first team after dismissing Cooper on Saturday.

Cooper steered Swindon to the play-offs last season but a 2-0 loss at Millwall over the weekend left them without a league win in six matches and one point above the relegation zone.

The Robins have begun drawing up a shortlist for a new boss and, while Power has taken up the reins for now, he will 'definitely not be the club's next permanent manager'.

Cooper, 46, chose not to take charge at Sheffield Wednesday in the summer and is understood to have also turned down Barnsley.

The 46-year-old, son of former Leeds and England defender Terry, started out in management at Tamworth and has had spells in charge of Kettering (twice), Peterborough, Darlington and Telford.

Cooper left the Bucks in March, 2013, after just 30 days in charge. He went to Swindon as assistant to boss Kevin MacDonald.
