Sean Clancy goes a ton-up for AFC Telford

AFC Telford United centurion Sean Clancy wants a win in tomorrow's home clash with Alfreton Town as the players look to match boss Rob Smith's targets.

Left-sided player Clancy passed a big personal milestone last weekend as he clocked up his 100th appearance for the Bucks.

And now he wants to help the club out of trouble, saying: "The manager has set us a target of seven points from these three home games.

"We've got four, so we're on track and hopefully we'll get the win tomorrow. Things have turned around. We feel more solid as a unit, we're passing it better and keeping possession better.

"The main thing is we're scoring. The main thing everybody wanted to see was goals. It's putting the ball in the back of the net.

"In the last few weeks we've had decent build-up and decent chances but we weren't able to score. We were missing penalties and hitting the bar - having no luck.

"Now we're scoring goals. That's the turning point. The gaffer's brought in a few players and a few decent loan signings and we have a good dressing room.

"There's no way that this type of squad should be in a relegation battle. We're a good team."

Telford sacrificed a two-goal lead against Boston last time out, but still took a point from the New Bucks Head clash.

It built on the three points collected against Stalybridge Celtic the week before. Smith and Larry Chambers arrived at the back end of August, taking over from Steve Kittrick.

And Clancy, who is in his third season with the club, knows the difference they have made is ten-fold.

He said: "I am enjoying it. They know a lot about the opposition. You can tell that they do their homework which is good as a player when you get out there.

"They've got a lot of passion and that's infectious. When we're going out with them behind us and we're showing that passion it helps.

"We've picked up points in the last two games and now going strength to strength."

Clancy was not totally sure that he was officially clocking up a ton of appearances in a Bucks shirt, but was delighted with the accolade.

And he is enjoying the relatively new experience of being the experienced head in the dressing room.

He added: "I wasn't sure if the 100 games was factual because a fan tweeted me it before the game but there was nothing from the club.

"It's a great milestone and I'm happy here at this club. I've enjoyed my time here.

"It's mad (being a leader). "I'm going out and all the lads next to me are younger. I still feel like a lot younger than I am.

"Hopefully, I'm passing on the advice and information for the young lads to take on board.

"I don't mind helping them out, it's what you want as a young lad coming into a new team."
